Hi,  I have tried your recommendations

Don't worry though as I have a few recommendations:

* Updating your Notebook computer BIOS UPDATED BUT MADE NO DIFFERENCE

* Keeping notebook air vents clear and clean ALL CLEAR HAS HAPPENED SINCE NEW ( ONLY GOT IT XMAS)

* Increasing the efficiency of the notebook to reduce heat DONE - NO DIFFERENCE

* Using Windows Task Manager to identify corrupt processes DONE - NOTHING TO NOTE

* Selecting power saves settings to shut off your computer when it is not in use DONE - NO CHANGE

I have checked out the link you send and have tried several of the options and none of them work.

I have to say I am not sure that is the fan, the noise is coming from the underside of the machine , like a constant whirring, buzzing/grinding sound . It happens as soon as machine is turned on and constant in laptop or tablet mode. The noise is  seems to almost speed up slow down at times as if a driver is working . I am sure that this should not be making this constant noise ? Plus there is no way that immediately turning on a new machine it should be getting hot !

What else do you suggest ?

As I understand the headphone aren't working on your laptop and here's what I need you to do:

Since the headphones work on other devices, let start by checking if the headphones are enabled as a playback device.

To do this, please see the steps below:

* Click the Start Pearl and then type Sound in the Start Search Box.

* Select Change Sound Card Settings in the Start Menu Options.

* Next, under the Playback Tab, right click and select Show Hidden Devices and Show Disconnected Devices if available.

* Select Headphones and enable

To Increase the volume on your headphone:

Method 1

* Right-click the volume icon in the notification area.

* Click Open Volume Mixer and increase the volume for Headphones.

Method 2

* Right-click the volume icon in the notification area.

* Go to Playback devices and right click Headphones under Playback.

* Go to Properties and set the volume to the maximum under Levels tab.

* Click Apply and OK.

For more steps, please follow the steps from this link.

Hi:

The only suggestion I can offer would be to try this W10 IDT audio driver.

Install and restart the PC.

This package contains the driver that enables the IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system.

Re: DISTORTED SOUND AFTER ANNIVERSARY UPDATE

Uninstalling and letting the windows update install the latest one from HP did the trick, but as I said, first I installed the one from here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-15-Notebook-PC-series/8499326/model/8903278/document/c05289563/. After that restart but still everything was screwed so uninstalling realtek driver completely from device list and letting Windows to install the same version as on that link (7944) did the trick.

So, first try uninstalling the Realtek from device list and see what version Windows Update installs, it should be the latest from HP (7944). If not, then do as I did - first install the one from the link, then restart (or probs not even that), then uninstall Realtek device and let Windows Update reinstall the driver. It was kinda obvious that Windows Update used HP installation file as it was certified and was not deleted after device uninstall - it did not donwload it again via Windows Update just.

This message shows on my speaker icon with an red X thru it. The sound has vanished. I tried a recovery to a different date and that didn't work. I have a hp pavillion dv6736nr that's updated from vista to w7. It has been running fine for over a year and then the sound disappeared. This Laptop has been extremely reliable since purchased new . Thanks for whatever help you can provide me with. Guy

My understanding is that the intel hardware can in theory support aptX, but you need a driver for it. and dell suppy aptx drivers, but hp do not. however could i use the dell drivers? i don't want to buy a dongle.

Alright, my product number is C2L36UA#ABA.

I am also running windows 8.1 (64 bits)

I tried using HP Support Assistant and did everything it told me to do and nothing worked, I tried one of the things that it told me that was in control panel, find and fix problems and got this:

Find and fix error

Haven't tried resetting my pc yet, but if I should have to do so, what backup method can I use or how can I backup all my information (I have currently 645 GBs in use). Thanks!

Hi!

I followed your directions and checked the show devices options. The headphones option did not show up. There is a headphone jack in the left side of the product but it does not recognize them as a playback option. Here is what my playback tab looks like:

Screenshot_5.png

Could it be the jack itself is broken? The product was bought new and the jack has never worked. I would be dissapointed in the laptop if it came with a broken jack, but things are starting to seem that way.

Respectfully disagree because my smaller  HTC  One cellphone has a smaller low profile as well and literally has less then 5% of speaker grill  compared to my HP 17T laptop and yet puts out an incredible amount of volume. Extremely disappointed and livid with the tinny sound coming out of these laptop speakers. HP truly dropped the ball this time around.

Thanks for the reply, as the troubleshooter says that the device is not set to default, recommend you to right-click on the device in the playback and set it to default and check. If you have already tried it.

Right-click on the playback devices and select 'show hidden devices' and then enable the device and set it as the default device. Can you share the playback devices screenshot?

If you need to backup 645GB of data, you would need an external HDD.

I think the headphones were already set to default so I don't know why that error.Headphones

Here is a screenshot of the playback devices, the headphones seemed to be detected, it shows that there is sound but I obviously can't hear anything on my headphones and obviously the speakers have no sound too because the the headphones are plugged in.

Headphones 2

I unplug the headphones and it shows that they are not connected anymore so I can see that the audio jack is working properly and also as soon as I disconnect it the speakers start sounding again. So as you can see the headphones are detected by the computer but there is no sound I don't know why, it used to work perfectly some weeks ago.
