Re: Audio Stopped Working

Hi:

The only suggestion I can offer, would be to see if this W8.1/W10 IDT audio driver resolves the problem.

Install and restart the PC...

6.10.6491.0

This package contains the driver that enables the IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system.

Wow, thank you so much. Your advice is better than the 300 dollar warranty I have at Geek Squad. Updating the bios based off my computers serial number and information and updating the sound worked!

What gets me is that i checked for updates manually, you know like when you go to the driver? Yet there are updates on the HP page that don't automatically pull in. I don't get that? You would think these important updates would be automatic.

Anyways...thank you so very much!!!! It worked!

To err is indeed human! Happy to move along!

I'll test the microphone later again, as I updated the drivers last night but due to an ongoing video encoding task I couldn't reboot to complete installation. Hopefully this will address the issue as there was an update, I'm thinking that any issues would have been software flags that must have reset in the software installation, so am hopeful of resolution.

In my case, 'restarting the system' fixed the mute button light back to normal. Worth trying this before going through all the brilliant suggestions.

Apparently the answer was a complete reset to factory defaults.  Boo.  Now the microphone just 'kind of' works.  Won't be using this x360 Laptop for Skype or any other activities that require 'real' sound input.  Boo, boo, BOO.  I don't seem to be the only one with this issue.  Hopefully HP fixes the problem.

I disabled it and it’s still playing from both headphone and speakers, and the headphones are not showing in playback. What should I do now?

Hey KrazyToad! Sorry for the delayed response. Been kind of backed up over here lately. Ok...updated the driver software from device manager. Said I had the latest updates available. Also downloaded the BIOS and did that as instructed. Also my Windows 7 64bit is up to date. So as far as my OS, sound driver software and BIOS...everything is current and up to date. Still no headphones.

When I open Volume Mixer it reads:

VOLUME MIXER – Speakers (Conexant HD SmartAudio 221)

Device                 Applications

Speakers           Systems Sounds             (Whatever browser I'm using comes up under Applications also                                                                                        when I'm online)

Thanks for helping me KrazyToad.

Rampant Issues with B&O Speakers

$

I’m not sure how in tune you are with the severity of issues that seem to be plaguing the HP/B&O partnership, but they are significant and quite frustrating. A wonderful partnership, no doubt…touted as to bring high-quality audio to HP computers. Sadly, the union seems to be a PR opportunity with no teeth, leaving countless consumers wondering, “Why did I opt for this device because of the reputation of B&O, only to find that I have NO functionality and NO support from HP, nor B&O to address the issues?”

I bought my new HP Envy less than a week ago and was excited and anticipatory about the potential audio quality. Alas, it has none. There are countless problem tickets open (easily searchable) about the Audio Equalizer function “disappearing” after the first HP driver update. Personally, I have spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to find a way to get back to the B&O software that was SUPPOSED to be onboard, which included an equalizer and boost capability, only to find that THERE IS NO SOLUTION!.

Not a single HP rep in ANY of the problem threads has “stepped up” and tried to identify a solution. Fingers are pointed, useless links are shared, idiotic diatribes between helpless consumers and so-called HP experts are rampant. I worked for HP for 18 years. This is NOT the company I remember. If I were still employed by HP, I would be embarrassed.

I will probably spend another 2-3 hours trying to identify a solution (partly because I’m a former HP’er, partly because I’m a bit stubborn), after which I will return this laptop and buy one that performs as advertised and touted.

SOMEONE needs to proactively ADDRESS THE PROBLEM!! PLEASE, just perform an internet search on, “HP Bang & Olufsen Issues” and you will find a plethora of examples. Maybe the references below will help.

crackling left speaker

I received a spectre with crackling speaker and found it was a common issue. hp customer support is honestly simply awful and that is an understatement. Also trying to get a refund is a hassle (3 weeks and still not received) because no employee (called 5 times) has any sympathy for your situation. Will NEVER be purchasing from hp again as my time and money has been completely wasted and you can't have any CONFIDENCE in the quality of the product. DO NOT BUY FROM HP.

Re: After re-installing Windows 10 and installng HP drivers cannot get any sound from audio outputs

Thanks for your suggested fixes.

I tried the Find and Fix Audio Playback Problems facility and this initially recommended turning off audio enhancements. Then tried playing some audio tests which were silent. Then it recommended a further test and after several minutes suggested that the audio playback switch from Conexant HD audio to the standard Windows HD audio. This works but now the Conexant audio software is disabled and the Bang & Olufsen application cannot be used.

I tried renstallng the HP drivers (sp80366) as recommended by the HP portal and the problem reappeared.

Thanks

I reviewed your concern and the entire conversation, did some research and here's what I recommend:

Follow the next set of steps advised by my colleague as he seems to have mapped down the entire game plan for you,

That said, I also recommend you run the hardware test t identify if this is either a hardware or a software malfunction, so that we can fix it accordingly.

Also, the fact that the issue was temporarily fixed could mean that this is a software issue, however, we need to be sure and what better way to confirm that then a h/w test, here's the link (again) - https://hp.care/2JtVM2E (HP PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures)

,

That is very normal after a Windows upgrade. Reinstall driver should fix this, please try

(a) Download the following driver and save on your computer,

sp84610.exe

(b) Go to Device Manager and uninstall any leftover for Sound then reboot machine,

(c) Right click downloaded file and select run as administrator,

(d) At the end, reboot machine.

Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again !!
