Re: No Sound from my laptop speaker but Headphone works....

Jiggle the headphone connector in and out of the jack until the sound returns. You can also try activating it with a toothpick in and out.  There's a small piece inside the jack that activates the speakers when the headphone connector is removed and often it sticks.

Dear Banhein,

Thanks for the advise. unfortunatly it as not worked.

Firstly, in the device manager thier is no audio driver to uninstall. see screen shot 1.

HP device manager.PNG

Secondly, regardless of the above i tried to install the driver sp89052.exe. it didnt work. the install got to about 80% and then a falure error happened. see screen shot 2

HP driver install falure.PNG

What does all this mean? I have been using this computer with no issues for the past 6 months. Before this machine i was a mac user for about 8 years, so i dont have a lot of recent expereince with windows issues.
but surely it was the windows update that screwed everything.

Any ideas? I need my sound.

Thankyou heaps

Adam :)

Regular speakers work, satellite and subwoofer doesn't. Also, volume output is really low.

I am getting the same error as in the screenshot. Were you able to resolve? If Driver Booster is the answer, can someone please provide the link? Thanks.

Hi Riddle.

I can't be reading this correctly. I wrote in my prior messages that I don't have Beats Audio, and I definitely don't have Realtek. I have Coexant ISST and Intel Display Audio. Those are the only two my computer came with.

So before I go ahead and use that link that will supposedly update the B&O (I think!), I thought you needed to know that.

I'm the Riddle_Decipher & I'm writing on behalf of my colleague , as the tech is out for the day, that said, I have reviewed your concern and the entire conversation, did some research and here's what I recommend:

Yes, please go ahead and use the link provided by KT, and I'm glad you've got the BIOS Updated too,

That said, I just wanted to let you know that the most updated driver could just be until May 10th, as there aren't any more releases made after that, so that's normal, I recommend you try the below steps if none of the above worked, though KT seems to have done his best:

  1. Go to Windows Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers section.
  2. In the list of audio device drivers, look for Realtek High Definition Audio. This is the device driver for BeatsAudio (a little bit sneaky, wouldn’t you say?).
  3. Right-click and select Disable. The downward arrow displays on this driver, indicating it is disabled. (NOTE: At this point, you won’t be able to play any music files.)
  4. Right-click and select Update Driver Software.
  5. Select Browse my computer for driver software.
  6. Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
  7. You should see a window that says Select the device driver you want to install for this hardware. NOTE: If you see a window that says something like This is the best driver for this device, exit the window and repeat steps 4, 5, and 6.
  8. In the Model box, highlight High Definition Audio Device (this is the substitute audio device driver) and click Next.
  9. At the Update Driver Warning window, click Yes. You should see a confirmation window with High Definition Audio Device displayed. Click Close.
  10. In the list of audio device drivers in the Sound, video and game controllers section, you’ll notice that the High Definition Audio Device now displays instead of Realtek High Definition Audio.
  11. At the prompt to reboot, click Yes.
  12. Enjoy your music now with no compression & louder.

Keep us posted,

Agreed. I am having the same exact issue and it started on the same day that you posted. I've spent hours looking through and trying different solutions. When I run my troubleshooter, it says "Intel High Definitio Audio doesn't have a driver" and also "Realtek High Definition Audio has a driver problem" but the troubleshooter is unable to fix each one. I have even tried going to the intel support for drivers and software but their website doesn't read that my driver is missing. I have also tried to use driver easy, but that isn't helping with realtek after i download it and it doesn't recognise that the intel driver is missing. I'm at a loss here. Please let me know if you have found a solution.

Thank you for being a part of HP Forums, the place you can come back to, for any concern or query as we as a community are eager to help,

That said, It'll be an honor to guide you through the steps needed to identify your concern and/or address your query.

Did you try creating a new user account to check if that works fine?

As this could be an issue with the windows, considering the error message - "Audio stopped working", however, if you've already done that as well, and yet the issue persists, the best way to diagnose and resolve this issue is to use the HP Guided Troubleshooter:  Click here to access it
(simply select your description of the issue from the bottom of the screen to gain access to the next set of steps that should resolve your concern).

Let me know if the issue persists, as I should be able to get you more precise troubleshooting depending on your response and the results of the above steps,

Also, I (Or a trusted colleague) shall follow-up on this case to ensure the concern has been addressed,

And your device is up and running again, only in case you don't get back to us, first!

That said, If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That'll help us, and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

True as Toast ! 10/11/2018, I lost my audio drivers too! displayed the same message. . . after nearly 7 hours of futilely trying to update drivers and uninstalling devices to get the preinstalled speakers back up and running, I stumbled upon this forum and found the simple answer, driver booster.
