Thank you for your response, but I actually just found my solution on another post. Using the HP website to uninstall and reinstall my realtek driver worked for me! Heres the link:

https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers

Follow directions on the site and its very easy.

This is crazy! That link you gave me is for Realtek drivers.  I've explained mutliple times that I do not have Beats Audio or Realtek Audio, that I do have Coexant ISST and Intel Display Audio.

I asked about that, and you told me to go ahead and install it. I was led to believe that was the B&O link I needed. I saw that it was REALTEK when I went to install it and canceled it immediately.

Why are you giving me drivers to install that don't go with my system? Am I missing something here?

Sure wish people posting these solutions would actually check what they are suggesting.  NONE of the things in this post work.  When you go to "Hardware and sounds" there is NO "Realtek HD Audio Manager" anywhere in the list.  When you search for it in the control panel you get "Nothing Found...!"  I am running Windows 10 Home, Version 1803, Installed 9/21/2018, Build 17134.345...Realtek HD Audio Ver 2.82, installed today 10/12/2018.    If the above suggestions are actually working for some, then my guess is that they are adding steps that don't make it into the post.  Come on gurus, somebody has to know the answer to this problem...!

It is showing no audio output device is installed.

That probably due to Windows updates. Re-install driver should help. Please try

(a) Download the following driver and save on your computer,

    https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp88001-88500/sp88302.exe

(b) Go to Device Manager, Sound to uninstall sound driver and reboot,
(c) Right click downloaded file and select Run as administrator,
(d) Reboot again.

Note: some members say the following said they can use newer driver for their 15-bs0xx machines

          https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp89001-89500/sp89052.exe

Regards.

Thank you for the help. I did this earlier too but the maximum volume level is reduced and audio controls are not working.

Many thanks! However, it seems the problems still remain: after going through theps in the link you provided, Windows claims the proper driver is already installed (see screenshot), in spite that in another place in device manager Windows says no driver is installed and that there is no available driver.

This fix didn't work for me. I've spent hours trying to solve this problem.

I did everything indicated in HP's solution. The faulty driver continues to reappear. Also, I've been unable to download any other drivers, as HP's website doesn't recognize my product number despite me copy/pasting it after using the fn/esc approach.

I've tried many approaches, but nothing works. Is there a way one can access a chat with an actual person under HP support?

I'm having the same problem. The HP soljution didn't help. I uninstalled the drivers and took the other steps. But the faulty driver continues to reappear after I scan for hardware changes or reboot my laptop.

After 3 days of struggling, my audio came back on soon after I posted my message. I went back once again to delete the faulty drivers with the exclamation point, and it wasn't there. I scanned for hardware changes, and it didn't come back. And the red "x" on the speaker was gone. I still didn't have sound, but I rebooted. Still no sound, but with a a click on troubleshooting, and a long wait, the sound came back!

So maybe just keep trying to delete the faulty drive, and the higher level as indicated in HP's advice. Maybe it will work eventually. I really don't know what I did that did it. But maybe there's hope.

I had the same issue on my laptop too. I use my laptop for office work like checking vehicle tracking system application a lot to monitor our assets. Recently due to some malware function I have to reset my laptop and I endup with audio problem which was not working properly.

Thanks to Schidakov for the solution. Now it has fixed.
