I have the same problem as you outlined in your previous post

"None of these seem to be a solution for me.

1) Solution by Schidakov : Rollback the SST drivers : I dont have that option (greyed out)

2) Solution by DaveArnold78 : Right click, select Update Driver, Choose browse from computer. Ok I browse... where? what files? Unclear.
I tried reinstalling the Realtek drivers from HP, number SP089052 , it ends in error "Install Realtek HD Audio Driver" , error -0001, No driver supported in this driver package."

I followed the link you gave. I am an amature at computer 'hacking' 'reprograming' 'terminal inputing' whatever you want to call it.  Also i am totally new to windows and all this bussiness of driver install and whatever is crazy talk to my OSX mind.

Can you expain the process you did please? i am concerned about screwing up something important.

Thanks heaps :)

Thanks for your reply and support.

Those methods you advised can be found from internet which I have tried out, btw, I did tried another time after read thru your instructions.

I even tried those settings on different driver as well. But the problem remains.

Problems with sound

A few days ago I had no sound coming from computer so followed instructions and reinstalled default Real Tek audio. It seemed to work but then however 1) The sound coming out of the computer is less lound (and sounds tinnier) and 2) When I put on headphonse - whose sound is fine - there continues to be sound coming out of the computer. What to do?

I had the same problem, but I eventually sorted it thanks to this forum! I went to 'uninstall programs' in control panel and uninstalled the 'realtek high definition audio' program. You have to restart your PC in order for the uninstall to work. However, once restarted, your sound should be played via two different drivers; 'Speakers' and 'Headphones' , so even when you have headphones plugged in you can still play audio through the PC speakers!

Hope this helps!

video and music can`t be played or keep buffer in youtube and ETC after pluggin an earphone

Omg thanks guys, but i really need other solutions.

Tried @CherylG, @imbafjannt's method, but it still doesn't work.

Uninstalled the driver software and even installed the audio software for HP OMEN, but the problem still persist.

Will the HP team please identify the problem for me?

Mijn geluid werkt niet meer, telkens waneer ik mijn pc opstart verschijnt er een microfoon met een rood kruisje. Heb al de probleemoplosser geprobeert, ook al via apparaatbeheer maar niets werkt. Wat moet ik doen?

Welcome to the HP Forums :) I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I see from your post that you are having issues related to your HP notebook. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

  • Have you confirmed the Microphone is listed under device manager?

  • Did you try an external microphone to check if that works?

For a start please try these steps:

  • Right-click on the speaker icon on the lower right corner of the taskbar.
  • Then please select recording devices. Please select the Headset Mic option
  • Then tap the Lid near the top gently several times next to where the webcam is located and check if the microphone bars respond to the taps and receive inputs.
  • If they do then it should work with a driver uninstall and reinstall.
  • Please make sure that the headset Mic is set to default and enabled in properties option.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers from device manager.

a.    Click on Start; in the start search type “devmgmt.msc” without quotes and press Enter.

b.    Expand Sound, Video and Game controllers.

c.    Right click on the audio component and then click uninstall.

Once done, restart the computer and now update the Bios, Chipset and audio drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link.

Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant. Once done, restart the computer and check.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to check by making the headphone as the default device:

a.    Click on Start; Go to Control Panel.

b.    Click on Sound.

c.    Switch to Recording.

d.    Select your microphone/headset as the default device.

e.    Save the changes by clicking on OK.

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to check for Windows update:

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

If the issue persists, Check the 'Disable front panel jack detection' option:

1. Double-click on the Realtek HD Audio manager system tray icon (see fig. 1 above).

2. Click on small folder icon (see fig. 2 below).

3. Check that the 'Disable front panel jack detection' tick box is unticked.

4. Now insert the jack plug of either a microphone or headphones into the corresponding front panel socket of your computer.

5. If you now see the message 'Information: A jack has been plugged in', then you do not need to change this setting as your system has an HDA compatible front panel.

6. If you do not see this message, then click on the small folder icon again and tick the 'Disable front panel jack detection' check box.

For more details, please check the sound settings, as well as run a test on the audio - Please go through this support document - HP PCs - Resolving Headphones and Headset Problems (Windows 8)

Alternatively, you can  check if the internal Microphone is working and perform all the relevant steps from this link:  HP PCs - Resolving Microphone Problems (Windows 10, 8)   to troubleshoot the issue Then check if it gets resolved.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

After the recent Win 10 maintenance update, my laptop had NO sound. I installed the appropriate driver for Realtek High Definition Audio and now I have sound, but it's very low and kind of odd and tinny, even though I have made sure volume is set to the max. Can someone please help?
