I am experiencing the same problem and it seems to be associated with Windows 10 updates from Microsoft. Perhaps it is a driver update that is changing the way that the Realtek audio driver works?

For the record, I have the same problem too. What works for me is...

Open Device Manager, expand Sound, video and game controllers, and then either Disable -> Enable the sound entity or uninstall the drivers -> Reboot.

This has happened multiple times and is annoying. Please find a permanent fix and release an update.

Disable-> Enable works for me (HP 450 G2) without the need to reboot...but a few days later it fails again (possible after the next Windows update).

this is getting frustrating. my laptop is not making sounds for almost a week and HP makes it hard for me to get through them. i already chatted with an agent last night, was disconnected, called me at work earlier today and told me that he would call me back at 10pm PT. somehow i never got any call and i am about to exhaust my return policy. any ideas on how to get the sounds back on my laptop? appreciate your responses ASAP!

Frome yesterday there is no sound from my laptop speakers and headphones. When drivers are rolled back from Realtek to standard Windows, at least headphones work but speakers are dead.

Tried all magic found around (youtube, diagnostic tools etc.) but there is no sound.

Please help to exclude any driver issues before raising the claim to HP for hardware issue.

Thanks for the hint but is does not help.

MS update just blinks and nothing happens. Seems it is for AMD based systems, check overwiev of the update...

During renistallation of Realtek driver 8491, I get some strange messages on cmd screen (some timeouts for many files), but eventually it is installed. However, my laptop is still deaf, and with Realtek drivers headphones don't work anymore. Really weird..

Example of timeout message during installation:

I did the tests you told me and the microphone works. However, the volume of my voice is low even though there is no hardware. It makes me think that it is a design problem of microphones because when a finger gives a blow to the 2 microphones on the video the green bar moves while I also speak closely when the recording is very weak despite having turned up the volume to the maximum.

Hello, yesterday Windows installed HP - Extension - 8/31/2018 12:00:00 AM - 1.0.0.39 update and today system doesn't detect connected headphones. I tried to reinstall Realtek drivers, downgrade drivers, I installed updates trought HP Support Assistant but nothing worked... I have installed Realted audio driver 6.0.1.8509 and Windows build 1803. Thanks for any help !
