Hi:

What is the full model number or product number of your notebook?

Also, what operating system do you need the Intel HD audio driver for?

The product number can be found on the same label as the serial number.

Please do not post the serial number.

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out :)

I see that you're experiencing Audio quality issue.  Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • When was the last time it worked fine?
  • What is the operating system?
  • What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824 (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...)

While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

Set default device:

If you're connecting to an audio device using USB or HDMI, you might need to set that device as the default.

  • Select the Start  button, type Sound in the search box, and then select Sound from the list of results. On the Playback tab, select a device, then Set Default.

Turn off Audio Enhancements:

  • Follow these steps:
  • Select the Start  button, type Sound in the search box, and then select Sound Control Panel from the list of results.
  • On the Playback tab, right-click (or press and hold) the Default Device, and then select Properties.
  • On the Enhancements tab, select the Disable all enhancements check box and try to play your audio device.
  • If that doesn't work, select Cancel and, on the Playback tab, select another default device (if you have one), select the Disable all enhancements check box, and try to play audio again. Do this for each default device.

Keep me posted,

If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up'icon below,

Followed by clicking on "Accept as solution" from the drop-down menu on the upper right corner,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.  Have a great day!

AM having the same problem. I followed your link and downloaded the program. BUT when i clicked and use the administrative command it took me to choose an app. Then i tried to install winzip and used it to unzip the file. Then it was ok to use the install as admin and now it asked me to restart the Laptop. Hope it will bring back the sound cause this laptop is so cool and easy to use. But if this dont work it will be a little minus, hope not so :-)

According to the instructions for a hard reset, I should hold the start button down for 5 seconds.  Then plug the power cord in and restart the computer.  When I hold the power buttong down for 5 seconds, the computer turns on, so I cannot perform the hard reset.

Thanks for your help and suggestion. I have already tried. After 4 days of issues, I decide to reinstall with the mvp (Minimum Vital Programs) waiting reaction of HP support about the status of my HD. (ticket created one week before, but no reaction. I will phone tomorrow, 5 open days without reaction, it is not normal, nor acceptable (I work partially for an help desk, so I know what I say).

I have the exact same issue. I was wondering whether this is a defect or just a design flaw.

I am also have the same issue. However I have a new HP x360 Envy. This has been driving me nut trying to figure it out.

Sometimes I think it is a hardware issue and the speakers are defective, but sometimes the speakers work perfectly. Which should not happen if the speakers were defective.

The fact that crackliing noise is so inconsistent makes it hard to pin point the issue. Other times I thinks I figure out the issue and then it reappears, the next day.

What makes it worst is that, there are so many other audio issues plaguing Hp laptops makes it harder.

Issues that I am having with Hp laptop:

  • Intermittent Crackling noise
  • 3 second audio muted at beginning of videos, and when scrolling to different points of the video
  • 3 second crackling noise on speaker when headphones are  plugged in video is started
  • Occasionally sound playinig on speakers even though speakers are muted

These are the audio issues plaguing Hp x360 envy, and spectre laptops:

  1. Intermittent Crackling / static/ grinding/ flapping noise
  2. Three second audio muted at beginning of videos, and when scrolling to different points of the video
  3. Three second crackling noise on speaker when headphones are  plugged in video is started
  4. Occasionally sound playinig on speakers even though speakers are muted

I thought I had the fix for number 2, but after installing and reinstalling drivers several times, to fix other issues. The registry fix no longer works.

Shame on you Hp for such a lousy job.
