I still have not been able to fix this problem. Also it will notify me that I have updates from HP but when I go to download the updates and I click download it will pop up the download screen and go through the preps to download then it stops and doesn't download the update.

This is about to drive me crazy. About the only thing I can do with this computer is search the web. No DVD, Audio, or updates!

Hello and thanks so much for posting on the HP support forums.  The first thing you should try is a system restore back before the issue started.  Here is a link to help you with that.

HP PCs - Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 10, 8)

If that fails the next option is to do a full system recovery back to the original factory settings.  You will need to back up all your data before doing this.  This process will wipe your system clean and put it to the configuration it was in when it came out of the box.  This is the link to help with that.

HP PCs - Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 8)

Please let me know how thing go.

Thanks again for the post and have a great day.

I read your post about Cortana, and wanted to help!

As long as you have a working Microphone, you should be able to use it to activate Cortana.  Are you indicating that the Microphone is not functioning, or that you are unsure how to use it to activate Cortanan?  Please review the following resources for more information:

How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

I grasp that you are running Windows 10 and you have a crackling/static  noise from the speakers.

Did this  come with Windows 10 installed or did you do an upgrade to Windows 10?

Have you done all your Windows troubleshooter?

Have you ran the  HP Support Assistant ?

Have you done all your Windows updates?

Here is a link to Open the Windows Update troubleshooter that may help find additional drivers.   Although it lists Windows 7 it does work in Windows 10.

Once launched, it should show a screen like this.

windows updater.png

Use the second option "Background Intelligent Transfer Service", it should lead to a force update of 'Windows Updates' that may not be automatically being applied, that could fix some of these issues.

If you connect external speakers do you have the same issue?

If you would like further assistance please provide your exact model of HP Spectre X 360 Ultrabook and any additional details.

To say thanks for replying please click the thumbs up icon below.

If this resolved the issue for you, please advise people by choosing solution provided.

Best of Luck!

I had this problem the other day. My sound was fine before my lunch break, but when i returned i had a continous crackling/staticy sound whenever there was any kind of audio. I know some people have said that this didn't work for them, but when i went to control panel/sound and went to the properties under my speakers, i changed the format from 16 bit to 24 bit (under the advanced tab). This worked for me!

btw...i had no issue until i upgraded to windows 10. then the issue started the next day.

Spoken Word Video Playback is Tinny Plus iTunes Sounds Terrible dv7-4179 windows 7 Home 64bit

Hi. I am not a techie and I have searched this forum  for a loooong time and I am majorly lost.

I'm studying for a test using a test prep service, Kaplan, and their archived channel programming. The playback of the lessons, spoken word,  is too tinny/crappy/grating on my fried overworked last nerve.... and while I know these notebook speakers are crummy,  (I tried my beats earbids..no better.)   I need advice.  (need to spend time studying because I am searched out.)

1. Can I make the sound better thru instaled speakers? I just went thru and changed a bunch of stuff / setting while reading this forum. Cant remeber them all so if I need to undo what I changed...  please start from fresh. Tried playing with the equalizer in beats audio and not helping.

2. A few weeks ago, I used a program called revo uninstall to take a bunch of bloatware off this notebook. Not sure if this poor sound quality has anything to do with it. No HP video playback etc. but I am using chrome and when I play these lessons the chrome tab says "chromeless video playback".  Too many restore points were created while I was uninstalling program by program so if I need one, I will have to dowload it.

3. I tunes also sounds horrible through speakers, obviously since y'all said they are not good, but also beats earbuds.

Many Thanks!

I recently re-installed Windows 7 Home Premium x64-bit on my HP Pavilion g7-1338dx using a system image. Everything installed smoothly. However, my sound quality is not as good as it used to be. I downloaded the audio driver appropriate for my PC but it has not done anything. How can I fix my sound quality to what it used to be?

Crackling Noise and Hiss on HP ENVY x360 15T

Hello.

Well like some folks Im having problems with my brand new (Not even a week old) HP Envy x360 Notebook.

The issue is: Terrible Crackling Noise, Hiss and Noise problems in Speakers and Headphones.. After doing some troubleshooting myself I pin pointed the issue to the Bang & Olufsen Audio Codec.

The issue became aparent when I updated the Realtek Driver to the lastest version last night.. There werent any noises before after upgrading to Windows 10 (The notebook came with W8.1) but after installing the Realtek drivers the noise began. If I unplug the notebook a horrible crackling noise will happen and its in sync with the brightness level of the screen being lower when entering battery mode. If I plug AC the noise will POP and level out.

Before installing the Realtek Drivers the only issue I had was ground static in headphone mode, I could hear the HDD spinning on the headphones if there werent any music or sound playing but the noise was muffled If I played anything like music or youtube video.

Then with the new realtek drivers the noise was horrible... Crackling Noises and Hiss are completely evident over the music our sound being played, Even on the speakers it is noticeable.

New issues on B&O Audio Codec Control Panel:
B&O Sound Enhance Has never worked on Headphones but at least the EQ Worked, After the Realtek Driver Update B&O EQ has stopped working and the B&O Modes that used to dimm out when the headphones were plugged in are now available and can be changed with no noticeable difference.. This is the key.. B&O Codec is having issues with the new Realtek Driver.. EQ Now only works on Speaker Mode and not on Headphone Mode.. Also in device Manager it now shows Headphones as a separate Hardware?

I Confirmed this over HP Support. B&O is now in  schedule for an Update to make it compatible to Windows 10, By how the Support Clerk wrote it, it seems B&O is not fully compatible with Windows 10.. And the Realtek Update made it evident.

Hope this helps anybody... Right now I havent found a way to Fully Disable B&O Codec without uninstalling it and since there is no way to download it again I choose to wait for the updated Codec.

Try this:

Go to Bang & Olufsen Control Panel
> Advanced Configuration
> Disable "Multiple Audio Play Sources" (Should be Enabled by default)

That did resolved most issues for me except the un-plug AC static noise and pop.. Dunno if it might work for you.

Computer's built-in microphone will not work

I purchased this 2-in-1 for college August 13, 2015 and moved in the next day. I tried skyping my girlfriend and it worked the first time but since then my microphone hasn't worked. I figured it was skype, so I tried setting up Cortana and it didn't pick up any audio either I've read tons of help forums from different websites including this one, all without solutions to my problem. Most have just skype solutions (still didn't work for me) or driver re-installations (didn't work for them) or even windows task manager processes they can delete (I don't have any that seem to be a problem).

So yeah, I'd like to be able to use the full functionality of my $1,200 computer that isn't even a week old so I can talk to my gf and family and use cortana. So if HP can work to fix this relatively fast as it seems to be a relatively common issue, that'd be fantastic

Thanks,

Jake

*UPDATE: After posting this I remembered I thought I blew a pair of headphone speakeres I had been using for a while because audio was distorted on them. I tried playing music through my laptop just now and I get static and a clicking and when I plug in headphones, so theres a complete audio issue here and I have done no physical damage to this thing.

Problems with Skype, after updating to Windows 10

Hello!  I have been very satisfied with my computer, but I recently tried to update to window 10.  In the process of updating I had to reset it completely and set it as new computer with Windows 10.  Now everthing except Skype seems to be working okay.  When I test call Skype the sound breaks up and the recording I make also breaks up.   I tried making a Skype call but the sound and the picture were both poor.  I then tried a Skype connection with my Ipad and that was okay.

I then removed Skype from my computer and then reinstalled it, but it is just the same.  I think all my sound and recording devices are set correctly,  do I need Driver updates?   Can you please help?    Cheers

Hello, I have HP ENVY 15 Notebook PC and the product code is J0B61EA#AB8. I'm having really bad quality of sound from my laptop. When I use quality headphones or a sound system, the level of the sound ist changing sometimes getting high or sometimes getting low. I tried the change levels in Beats Audio application but it didn't help and when I disabled the Beats Audio sound were terrible.I read lots of threats in the forum but I couldn't solve my problem.  I found similar problems as mine but their sound device were IDT or something like this but my sound device is Realtek. I tried to remove Realtek or any sound device and yes sound got better and Beats Audio application were disabled but when I restart my computer it comes back installed. I just want to use Realtek without Beats. How I can remove Beats Audio completely?
