Thanks for Microphone suggestion. But the problem seems to be headjak. I can't get sound from my headjack. It may be the reason Cortana is not working. Will you please show some guidelines?

When I click Sound, I get only one device Speaker/HP. Headjack is not available as option

WHen I try to use Cortana, I can't switch it ON. If I do, it goes back to Off when I check it back.

Thank you for joining in on the HP Support Forums and Welcome @Ranjani_S,

I understand that you are having an issue with the sound on your HP Pavilion g4-1201tu Notebook PC. Please remove any and all USB devices and make sure to disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues.

Did you happen to try the audio troubleshooter? It might be able to fix your issue automatically.

Have you tried plugging in external speakers to see if it is the compatibility?

Have you tried updating the audio driver?

Have you tried using the HP Support Assistant to update all of your drivers?

Have you tried to uninstall the audio driver?

If not, please use the following steps:

  • Go to the Device Manager
  • Click on Sound, video, and game controllers
  • Right click on the Sound driver
  • Click Uninstall
  • Restart your Notebook twice
  • Reinstall the Sound driver if it does not install automatically.

You can find this and other troubleshooting steps in the No Sound from Speakers (Windows 10, 8) document.

No sound issues

Bought Envy 15" notebook in early 2015 with 2 year extended warranty. After a few months no sound thru the laptop speakers. Ok if using bluetooth or earbuds. Sent back to HP for repairs and onk upon return.

Upgraded to windows 10 and again start with no sound. If I restart the laptop I have sound for a short time but it goes back off.

Returned again for repairs and just received it back last week and the no sound issue started again.

Have called tech support many times and went thru troubleshooting including allowing them remote access.

Just completed a 1.5 hour session with them and after I had sound for a total of 30 minutes before it went back off

This is a major issue with HP laptops apparently and all the are doing is sweeping it under the rug until the warranty is over.

Hi

I'd be happy to help you with your HP Envy X360 M6. Since you have already called in and done the recommended troubleshooting and your notebook is less than a year old I would have expected it to have been sent in for repair. Were your warranty options discussed with you? You might consider calling back to see what options you have to have the issue corrected.

As for troubleshoot suggestions that you may not have tried, was is it taken into consideration that the button itself may be the root cause? Perhaps the button is not working to turn off the mute. Have you tried a different method of disabling mute? I know that may seem a silly question, but it's easy to just jump straight into troubleshooting drivers and forget about hardware hiccups.

Let me know.

HI neil3110 ,

Think that you can find solution in this post:

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Audio/No-Audio-Output-Device-installed-and-Intel-SST-Audio-Dev...

However , I will repeat procedure for you:

Press Win+X key , or right click on Start button.

Open device manager.

Usualy , it must show „unknown device“.

Right click , choose „manualy update driver“ , second (bottom ) option

On the second screen ,

Choose second (bottom ) option , let me pickup driver from PC

Again choose bottom option , pickup the driver from the list.

Choose audio controler

On the list – left side – choose Intel corporation (the first one !!! )

On the right side choose  Intel SST Audio Device , and instal it.

You will be prompt not to do it , but do it hovewer.

It should solve emediatly the issue.

All the best!!!

Dindin

The microphone on my laptop does not seem to be working correctly..

I have the latest version of Skype, the laptop is less than a month old.

I have also tried fb messenger unsuccessfully.

The calls are to different recipients, so the problem is with me.

I bought a head set with microphone but i still can't be heard..

I have been into settings and boosted the microphone levels to maximum.

Not sure what else I can do..

Problems arising in the speaker and when a headphone/earphone is connected.

My laptop model is HP Pavilion x360 - 13-s101tu. Date of Purchase is November-end 2015. Speakers : Bang & Olufsen

Part 1-

The speakers of my laptop are producing low volumes even at moderate levels. For example, whenever I play a song or a movie or any audio based program, a lower level of 15 to 25 should produce an audible sound but the sound is hardly audible at around 15 and bit audible at around 25. When increased to 40 (at least) the sound becomes audible up to a normally acceptable level. Anything beyond that starts to get loud. I have observed this "issue" since the date of purchase. The laptop is still under warranty. The possibilities I can think of are either the speakers have been tuned by HP in that manner for this product or the speakers do have a problem.

Part 2-

When I connect a headphone or an earphone to the laptop the sound comes out muffled, suppressed and so low that audibility is almost zero, it doesn't matter if the volume level of the laptop is high. Plus, there are grains in the audio, that is something like the one that is produced by a TV when there is no channel. When I try to rotate and adjust the Phone Connector of the headphone or earphone, at one particular point the audio becomes clear, audible and there is no muffling. Though I have downloaded Real Player, and there is Films and TV app of Microsoft, I use VLC Media Player to watch video contents and Windows Media Player for audio contents such as songs.

Another problem I have noticed is that when I watch a video on YouTube and adjust the Phone Connector of headphone (which often gets disturbed upon contact with hands or due to unintentional head movement) to correct the adjustment in order to get proper sound (as I have mentioned above), the YouTube video stops and breaks the signal showing the message "An error occured. Please try again later".

Before taking the laptop for service I wish to clarify what all possible reasons are there for the problems I mentioned above. And, please suggest what all could be serviced and how much would be the cost and what parts of the speakers are covered under the warranty?
