I went through the troubleshooter, and it looks like the generic B&O software driver is problematic (it detected a decive was plugged in, rather than my headphones).  Thanks!

Dear Customer,

Below is the link to download the drivers:

http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=3357378&swItemId=ob_77875_1&swEnvOid=4054

I think you can use a lot of the W7 drivers from the HP 6910p. It has a similar hardware

http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=3357378&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4054

You can also try the generic Intel driver. Sometimes it works and sometimes not--depending on model.

After installing drivers, if the issue persists, try below troubleshooting:

I went to your link but the page that appeared did not define a clear link to what you referenced. That is why I responded to your post asking if you could simply supply the actual link rather than a page full of advertising...at least that is what appeared when I went to the URL.

Thanks for your reply.

Just tried that driver but the sound is still distorted. Everything sounds fine though if I play it through my headphones.

Sound going from normal to quiet...? help

Hi I have an HP Paviliion 15-au070sa 15.6". I bought it about 7-8 weeks ago for university. It has been great so far apart from today, i noticed when i play something with sound, the volume goes to a very quiet without me touching the sound levels. When i pause it and play agai, it goes back to normal then quiet a few seconds later. Could you help? I don't know why it's started doing this now, i haven't dropped it and it hsn't been near water. Is there was to fix this myself? Please help, thanks!

Hello, – Hope you are well!

Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a dynamite location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others.

Appreciate your efforts in updating the drivers. Now let's try the below-mentioned steps to fix the audio issues:

  • Go to device manager (You can give a right click on windows logo on bottom left corner of your screen and select device manager from the list)
  • Now maximize the “Sound, video and game controllers” from the list. You will see the audio driver. Right-click on “IDT high definition audio CODEC” / “Realtek audio CODEC” and select “Update driver software”.
  • Select “Browse my computer for driver software” – Select “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer”.
  • Select “High Definition Audio Device” (Not IDT High Def... or Realtek High def…  This is important) and click Next. You will get a warning message but reply “Yes”.
  • Once windows have successfully updated the driver software, try playing the audio again and check.

I hope that fixes the audio related issue in your Pavilion notebook.

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome.

Cheers Smiley Happy

Hi ,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. Thank you for sharing the issue details. I would like to help you.

As I understand the audio quality is lower than expected and need a solution.

(Please correct me if I'm wrong and thank you for the details)

Could you please provide me with the product number of the PC? If you're not sure how to find that information, please click here for information.

I have a few steps you could perform to resolve the issue: Remove the audio drivers & Reinstall the original drivers Update the Audio drivers from the Official HP website for windows 10 (click on change on the top to switch between OS).

Increase volume on playback device settings after setting your speaker as the default device. For more steps, follow a similar post on the HP Forums: Click here

* Perform a hard reset

* Reset BIOS to defaults

* Run the Audio test from the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)

* Update the BIOS

* Reset your computer

* Perform an HP System Recovery

Let me know if those steps worked for you. If they did, that’s awesome! Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons, that’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!

If you are able to reach some resolution, please click on Accept Solution to help others with similar issues.
