Hi! , Welcome to HP forums.

I understand that you have audio issues only when your laptop is plugged into power.

Please try the steps recommended below.

In Windows, type sounds into Search. Select Change system sounds in the Search results.
Alternatively, right-click the speaker icon  on the taskbar and select Playback devices.
In the Sound window, from the Playback tab, select your playback device, then click Set Default. If only one playback device is listed, it is set to default automatically.
If you set speakers as your default device, proceed to the next step.
With the default playback device selected, click Configure.
Click your speaker setup in Audio channels.
Click Test to send sound to each speaker, or select an individual speaker to send sound to that speaker.
If the sound is heard correctly from each speaker, you are finished.
If the sound is missing from all or one of the speakers, or if the configuration type was changed, continue with speaker setup by clicking Next. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the speaker setup.

Refer this article to further troubleshoot audio issues.

Have you tried checking with a different adapter?

Let me know how it goes!

Have a great day! Smiley Happy

, welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out.

I understand that you are facing issues with the sound quality and also there is no sound in playback mode.

Don't worry as I have a few steps that should help fix this issue.

This issue has occurred because there are no sound drivers for Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit).

Hence, I request you upgrade or roll back the drivers to Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit) using HP Recovery CD/discs that came with the computer.

Let me know how that works.

I hope you have a good day ahead.

Yes that is what I see, the IDT Audio and High Definition Audio Device.

OK, hopefully we will have that fixed in a jiffy...

First download and install this free file utlility.  The 2nd link at the top of the page is for 64 bit.

http://www.7-zip.org/

After you install 7-Zip, download and save, but do not run this Intel graphics driver.

This package provides the driver that enables the Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. If high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) video output is supported, this package also installs the HDMI Audio Driver.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72001-72500/sp72370.exe

Once you have saved the graphics driver file, right click on it and select 7-Zip from the list of items on the menu.

Have 7-Zip Extract to:  and let it extract the file into its folder name (sp72370).

After 7-Zip does its thing, go to the device manager and click on that plain HD Audio device (not the IDT one).

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder 7-Zip created.

Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and the driver should install.

Then restart the PC, and see if you now have audio and video via the HDMI out port.

Interesting.

That process normally works.

Please post the hardware ID for the HD audio device.

To find the hardware ID, click on the HD audio device in the device manager.

Then click on the Details tab at the top of the HD audio device.

Now you will see a Property drop down list and it will be set to Device description.

Drop down on that list, and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's).

Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.

OK, that driver should have worked.

Just click on that folder 7-zip created because I want to show you where to find the driver.  We are now going to try to force the installation.

Click on the folder and it will show several folders.  Click on the DisplayAudio folder.

Then there are two folders inside that one.  Click on the top one listed (6.16.00.3178).

Then click on the IntcDAud Setup information file and you will see the driver for the hardware ID you posted.

HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8086&DEV_2807&SUBSYS_80860101.

Close out of that now.

Go to the device manager and click on the HD audio device again.  Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option again, but this time at the bottom of that window, select the Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.  Then click on Have Disk and browse right to that IntcDAud Setup information file and see if the driver will install that way.

If it does, restart the PC.  If it doesn't, unfortunately, I have no idea why that driver won't install because it should have worked using the first method.

But that missing driver is why you have no audio from the HDMI out port.

Hi Chetan,

Thanks for the attempt at helping me. I installed the newest driver yesterday in hopes that would help. It does seem to be crackling less but It's still clicking, quite steadily.  I took all the steps you describe above and the speakers are working even though the clicking remains. The clicking is not responsive to the volume controls. It's the same at any volume. I have not been able to test to see if the problem is the adapter because I don't have a spare one to try. I am thinking of purchasing another Envy within this month and then I will try the adapter switch out to see if that works. I really love my Envy and this is the first trouble I have had with it. Of course it started just two weeks past the 1 year warranty. That makes me unhappy. One shouldn't pay $1300 for a laptop and take care of it like it was their baby and develop problems before two years go by. I think HP needs to rethink their basic warranty length and produce a product that is tough enough and reliable enough that it lasts 2 years without hardware issues of any sort RATHER than making money by SELLING the extended warranty. It's just bad PR and I must say, I was a devoted HP buyer--could have bought the same machine cheaper elsewhere but I brought my money and faith directly to HP. NOW of course, I am worried the adapter is bad and may be causing problems with voltage regulating issues throughout the machine. I am NOT a happy camper.

Hello everyone... I am facing a problem regarding B&O Play settings. All my drivers are updated, but  I can't change the settings,  as shown above, in fact, I can't even tick the check box beside B&O Play... It worked perfectly when I had bought the laptop about 4 months ago. Any help will be highly appreciated...

Regards,

Samya
