your laptop should have Realtek High Defination Audio not IDT audio
I have a
HP 15-ay054tu Notebook and its volume keeps going up and down
and its really ANNOYING
Ok so I have an on going problem, I have already sent this laptop in twice for so called "repair" and nothing is done. My audio jack is broken, when I use headphones the sound comes in so poor it's almost like a white noise. Tried 2 new pairs of headphones, same problem. I've talked to 3 people now through HP support and I don't think they know too much about laptops honestly..... I really need this fixed and i'm quite fed up with the lack of help.
Hi All,
I've seen variations of my question on various boards but still haven't seen any solutions that worked for me.
I'm experiencing frequent crackles and distortions in audio when using Ableton Live.
It will either crackle and I'll need to adjust the buffer size to something crazy and improable like 2048, or it will run effortlessly at 128. Usually if I change the buffer size to 256 and then change it BACK to 128 then it will work again. But the instances are too frequent to ignore.
My specs are adequate for running audio -- 7th gen, dual core 7th gen i7, 16gb of ram, 512 GB SSD.
Currently using ASIO4ALL in Ableton Live -- which while not optimal, at least has a lower latency than the native MME/Direct.
I've run LatencyMon which identifies the culprit as the ACPI.sys driver -- which I know is related to power, specifically laptops. Unfortunatley I have no way of remedying. Its highest execution being 1.21 ms.
I've tried everything: disabling various devices, updating drivers, switching power plans, optmizing the computer, updating BIOS, minimized processor throttling. Nothing works. Still the same results.
I'm starting to think I just made the wrong purchase, that I should opt for macbook pro that already seems optimized for audio. i've spent the majority of my time with this laptop troubleshooting, and it's extremely frustrating.
Is this an unwinnable battle? Is it just the wrong machine for professional audio? I'm still within the return window for the computer. So waiting for HP/Microsoft to correct this in an update is not an option.
Any thoughts? I'd like to KEEP the computer of course. But not sure if anything done...
Thank you,
Ryan
You, my friend, are a GENIUIS!
You are agenius for suggesting something so simple! Thanks so muck!
For one this HP is a piece of crud. I will never buy another hp again. Im on my 3rd hard drive and I have had it for less then a year. Now the sound doesnt work. Well didn't work until I pressed esc on start up and went to diagnosting my hardware. I went to audio and tested it. It worked so I then loged into windows and now my sound works. Also my key board keeps popping up and the curser keeps jumping around when I type. I'll never buy another touch screen especially hp again. I use to get nothing but hps but I think my next computer will be a Lenovo.

HI, I am in the middle of travelling and I went to open my laptop last and it forced to dp a restart and use a bitlocker key to get back into it. Now, I have no audio drive.
I have gone into device manager to uninstall and install - didnt work
I set my computer back to factory reset and that didnt work - it still says no audio output device. Then when i trouble shoot it, it says hardware changes may not have been detected, fixed. But still wont work.
I have doenloaded a HP driver assist program which is meant download drviers but that didnt work either and says my audio device is up to date. I have also downloaded realtek to download drivers but it says there was an error.
Is there anyway to get audio back onto my computer?
Any info would be reallpreciated.
I 'm pretty sure i'm not the only only experiencing this issue, how does one use microphones to a pc with a single audio jack? Please i really need some sort of serious attention because **bleep** when i bought this product i thought it had everything i need. Only to realize something special to me is missing...... I was gonna return it or buy a different product otherwise, i'm here enquiring.
Hi!
Please uninstall all the components of audio drivers from device manager and restart your PC.
Update audio driver and BIOS from the link below.
BIOS update link.
Please update audio drivers using this link.
If you still have issues please reinstall windows using HP recovery discs.
You can order recovery discs from this link.
I'll watch your reply.
Have a great day!
Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums. I read your post and understand that you have an HP Spectre x360 - 13t laptop and the audio is not working. There's a yellow exclamation mark on Realtek HW audio codec. I understand that you also tried reinstalling the drivers but that didn't work either. Thanks for such detailed explanation about the issue. You have certainly done your share of research and did a great job.
I recommend you to try the following troubleshooting steps:
In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
Select Device Manager in the menu.
Figure: Device Manager
3. Double-click a device type (for example, double-click Sound, Video and game controllers).
4. Right click on the drivers listed in for Sound and uninstall them one by one.
Post the above steps, please download and install the sound drivers from the link www.hp.com/drivers. If the same error arises and doesn't allow you to install the drivers then I suggest you to follow the steps by step troubleshooter guide for sound issues: http://hp.care/2dp5pwy. Hi Everyone! I will be quick! Last day I bought a notebook Hp Pavilion 17 ab011nl and I found soon a strange thing : both when I turn the volume up or down and when I insert a pendrive in one of the usb slot, I can clearly hear a sort of interference from the speaker (B&O one). Hope you can help me!
Welcome to HP Support Forums. I came across your post and understand that the speakers produce a very distorted sound. The sound output through the headphones appears to be fine. Maybe I can help you with this case.
I recommend you to download and run the SoftPaq to update the audio driver via this link: http://hp.care/2fODvOg. Please restart the laptop after the update. If the speakers still continue to produce distorted sound then please run the hardware diagnostics on the speakers:

4. The Component Tests menu displays. Click Audio.

5. Click Run once to start the test.

6. Select Speaker to begin the test.

7. During the test, a few music notes will be played in sequence and repeatedly. Listen carefully and select the number of notes you hear in the sequence. If you enter a tone number incorrectly, run the test again. If you hear nothing, select No sound.
Note: Some HP models have a Volume control in the test window. Make sure you increase the volume level before making a music tone selection.

Troubleshooting No Sound from the Computer
Run the Audio test from the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)
The Hardware Diagnostics Audio Playback Test checks your system to make sure the audio device is functioning properly and tests the functionality of the audio subsystem, including audio controllers and codecs.
NOTE: For more information about installing and using the HP PC Hardware Diagnostic tests, see Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 10, 8).
Use the following steps to run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) Audio Test. During the test, a few music notes are played in sequence and then repeated. This test takes 1 minute to complete for each audio output port.
