Can you let me know what is the model of the receiver and TV you are using?
You can try to download the latest BIOS/Graphic card/Audio driver for your notebook from the Support and Drivers download page on HP.com, and check if this helps resolve the issue.
Also ensure the settings are set right on your receiver/HDTV, as it should be able to work with the right drivers installed on your notebook. (and not by uninstalling drivers).
