Error with Sound and Video app and Windows Media Player.

I've downloaded a Bastille album. All the files are MP3. I've got Windows 8, so I have the Music app preinstalled. But when I try to play a song it says 'Can't play...make sure your computer has all drivers...' etc. I updated the app from the store, but it still shows this error. My Video app does not work either and show the same error message.

I tried playing the same songs using Windows Media Player, but it keeps saying "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing this file." I honestly have no clue how to get around this issue, I used Device Manager to see if my sound devices were working, and there's no sign that they don't.

(If it helps, I also downloaded a couple of games etc. from Steam some time ago, and the sounds for these do not work either. However, internet sounds like Youtube and all do work.)

Any detailed help or explanation will be much appreciated.
