I bought an HP Envy 4 from BB and it came with Win 8 preinstalled. The internal mic worked fine for a while, but then stopped working after 3 months. I upgraded to win 8.1 but still the microphone issue presists. I uninstalled the drivers and downloaded latest drivers from hp support site but no luck (before win 8.1 upgrade and after). It has beats audio codec preinstalled on the laptop from factory. I changed setting to not allow any apps taking exclusive control of the mic, but still no luck. When i speak the green bars do not show so i inserted a usb headset/mic (Jabra 220) for testing. I made the headset/mic communication device and later default recording device. When i speak, I can see the green bars going up and down which is good news. BUT, none of the software, sound recorder, speech recognition etc can detect sound. The volume on the recording setting is up and is not muted. I turned on "listen to the device" and i can hear my echo on the headset but the sound recorder and speech recognition programs do not detect any sound. I disabled/enabled stereo mix in settings but nothing improved. Really out of ideas on this. To make it worse, on the support site it says that drivers etc for Envy 4 are not tested and are not be supported under win 8 which is very weird considering it was purchased with win 8 preinstalled.
When i go into recording settings I get this msg IDT High Definition Audio CODEC (i disabled and enabled but no luck either)...
I have extensively searched this support site and web, tried everything but no luck so far...hoping someone will be kind enough to come up with an appropriate solution. Cheers.
