When posting it is very helpful in you provide your exact model of computer. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number. I would try running the HP Support Assistant to aid in updates and resolving issues. You can also run the Windows built in troubleshooter. Follow these steps
a. Press the Windows key +C to open charms
b. type in troubleshoot audio and select playback from the list.
Have you done all your Windows updates? Windows Update is included in Control Panel. To check for updates:
a. Click the Start button
b. Click all programs
c. Select Windows updater.
