You're welcome and good to hear it's working Ok :smileyhappy:
As to what caused this, I have noticed several similar posts with this issue lately, so if I had to guess I'd say it may well be an OS update - but that is just a guess.
The method I posted is a bit of a catch-all, in so far as it reloads the software and resets the hardware - it may well be that you only needed to remove and reinstall the IDT audio driver.
Certainly, if it does happen again, it's the first thing I'd suggest running through - saying that, I carried out a similar process on my notebook over a year ago and the issue has never re-occured.

I used DavidPK's instructions to address the same problem this morning. I had no sound after my computer came out of hibernation. Sound was fine before I went to bed, but gone after I aroused the bear. As with the original poster, the mixer indicated sound activity, but I couldn't hear it.
Thank you so much, DavidPK, for the very detailed instructions. One note for those who try this going forward - I received a prompt after installing the chipset that it "might not have installed properly" - i think it said it was outdated or something to that effect. However, I was then prompted to select an alternative, which I did.
I was also a little concerned when I pressed the power and beats button down together, as I thought that was going to power up the laptop. But I powered up after that step and when I went through the rest of the recommended steps, my audio was restored.
I so appreciate the precision of these instructions. Honestly, when someone starts tossing around the word "bios," it is akin to seeing the word "reduce" in a recipe - I immediately assume I will be flummoxed. ;-)

FWIW, I now recall a problem with hibernate a while back - For at least a year, perhaps longer, I've only used sleep or turned the computer off. I think this issue may have arisen previously in hibernation.)
