Sorry to hear about the problems with your speakers. Typically, if you are hear the sound through headphones or external speakers then it means that there is a hardware problem with the notebook's speakers. The audio drivers you used to update it were from HP correct? If not can you reply back with your product number again, as what you posted didn't pull anything up.
If it is a software or driver issue try the Microsoft FixIt tool for audio issues. Run that and if you are still having an issue I recommend that you contact HP. You can reach HP Total Care at 1-800-474-6836 in North America or visit this link if you live outside of North America.
