Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Pavilion 15-e042sa and Microphone compatibility. From the HP Manual-Be sure that the device cable has a 4-conductor connector that supports both audio-out (headphone) and audio-in (microphone). Here is a link to the manual page 14.
