Hey SSen,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
With your system running slowly, I would suggest following the steps in the document 'Improving System Performance without Adding Memory (Windows 8)'. Hopefully this will help speed up your computer.
For the sound issue, I would suggest reinstalling the original sound drivers for your notebook. I have included the document 'Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 8)'. Please follow through the documented steps, to install the original drivers.
Once the original drivers have been reinstalled, are you able to hear sound properly? (ie. just through the head phones, or just through the speakers). After this you will need to update the sound drivers again. You can get the required HP, and Windows Updates using the HP Support Assistant. I have included the document 'Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 8)'. If you scroll about half way down the page, you will see an option for Updates and tune-ups. Once you have updated the drivers, does the sound now play correctly?
If you are still experiencing the same issue after the above troubleshooting, I would like to confirm a couple bits of information with you.
1) What is the full model number of your computer? I have included the document 'Guide to finding your product number'.
2) Did you purchase your computer with Windows 8.1 installed, or did you upgrade your computer?
3) If you upgraded your computer, did the sound work properly before the upgrade?
Looking forward to your reply. :)
