Well, it is back.  I am trying to record a tape from a tape player on a stereo sytem. My settings are: Windows 7 most recent upgrade.

Playback -- Default device -- Speakers and Headphones IDT HIgh Definition Audio CODEC

Jack Information LR. Left panel 3.5 mm Jack

Levels 49 -- BUt the high shreiking noise is at any level.

   Enhancements -- Restored to defaults

Tone Controls -- Restored to zero Really doesn't matter what level they are on

Advanced -- On default 16 bit, 4800 Hz (DVD Quality) Again does not matter, when on (CD Quality) same problem.

Recording Device --- Default device -- Integrated Microphone Array IDT HIgh Definition Audio CODEC

Jack Information -- L R. Top Panel Internal ATAPI Jack

Listen -- Checked Listen to this device.

Levels -- Microphone Array at 52 -- Does not matter what level

Microphone Enhancements -- Disabled -- Again does not matter if enabled or not.

Advanced -- 2 channel, 16 bit, 4800 Hz (DVD  Quality)  Default

Whether the RCA cable is plugged into the Line in jack  Mic or not, the sound from the room comes  into the computer and is heard through the internal speakers. And the audio levels are displayed on the Sound Recorder bar.

On top of this, I attepted to do the recording using my Windows 8.1 computer, and I have the same results.

The only way to stop the annoying noise is to mute the Speakers and headphones on both computers. That is not acceptable.

Please help, the high tone shrecching is very annoying.

Thanks, Cheryl
