I have had this problem for way too long for a laptop that was not cheap. Nothing fixes it. Just bought a new LG Ultrawide with built in speakers thinking new modern speakers might be the answer. NOTHING!!! This really irritates me and is enough for me to say to someone who asks me about HP to say, "don't buy one...".
