Hi RGP-ENVOY,
Welcome to the HP Forums.

I see that you are also having a sound issue, that there's an "X" over your speaker icon. I will provide you with several troubleshooting steps to try and resolve this.

The first thing to try as in my second post.
Go into Device Manger. Click the "+" sign next to the Sound/Video Game Controller. Right click on the Audio Device driver(s) and Uninstall/Remove. Once all have been removed, restart your computer. Upon start-up the OS will add in drivers for any hardware it detects. This will renew the drivers for you, and if the issue was there should correct it.

From that point if you need further troubleshooting, I have a document for you to follow depending on what OS is running on your Notebook.
No Sound from the Speakers or Headphones (Windows 7)(works for Vista as well)
No Sound from Speakers (Windows 8)(works for 8.1)

Follow the one that applies to the OS on your Notebook. Be sure to do all of the steps in the document.

If after going through the above document you are still having an issue with the Audio, please review this document:
Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 7, Vista)
Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 8)

Again follow the one for the OS on your computer. This will test the hardware to see if there's any issues with that.
