i have one note
i as 90% of the people here don't work for HP
as we don't represent HP support team it's just a forums and i as the 90% just offering help
glad to know that you finally found a solution to your problem
**IDT is stable with Win 8 or 8.1
**it doesn't make any sense to find a driver from HP don't work with the system it was provided for
**please check the version you have from the driver and make sure it's Win 8.1 driver
**your LAPTOP main OS is windows which is provided by microsoft so make sure that you will not have a problem caused of the stability of the drivers or the system itself
**also check the version of OS you have and make sure it's genuine and clean not customized
