HP Pavilion dm4 3055dx beats audio - Windows 7 64bit OS - Intel i5-2430M 2.40GHz - 8GB Ram
Hello,
Thank you for reading this post and taking the time to help me. I am computer literate and feel i've tried nearly everything to solve this issue including searching relentlessly online for help.
Several months ago my laptop harddrive crashed a day after my warranty expired. I decided to send it in to a company to get it replaced that HP had referred me to. They mirrored the original harddrive and ultimately solved the issue. But a few days after receiving the laptop, the sound would crackle every few seconds. After restarting the computer the problem would go away temporarily, but it always returns either within a few minutes or a few hours. Sometimes the 'crackling glitching' sound will happen rarely with long intervals or it'll happen every few seconds. In an effort to solve the issue I have done the following:
1) Tested to see if it happened with headphones (which it did) ruling out a hardware issue.
2) reinstalled the 'IDT High Definition Audio CODEC' driver multiple.. ALOT.. of times.
-I downloaded the driver from the HP website, it is the file sp56172. Upon reinstalling, it gives me a message stating 'Access is Denied'. SO then i went as far as deleting the entire folder to rewrite it, which it then would copy all the files like it's supposed to -- Which didn't work. I even changed location where to save the files to install it -- Which didn't work.
3) Tried installing an older version of the driver, file sp54852, with no prevail.
4) Used HP Recovery Manager to reinstall the "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC' which gives me a message as follows:
- " One or more of the selected driver(s) and/or application(s) may not have properly installed and have been marked with "Exclamation mark". Please uninstall these from the computer before attempting to install them again from HP Recovery Manager. (error code=-2147213312) "
- I have uninstalled (from the device manager) and installed the same driver as directed with no prevail.
5) I have changed the driver to "IDT Audio Driver' which dumbs down the sound quality, also with no prevail through >Device Manager >IDT High Defintion Audio CODEC >Driver tab >Update Driver... >Browse my computer for driver software >Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer >IDT Audio Driver.
6) Went into Control Panel >Uninstall a program >IDT Audio and uninstalled this application.
6) Uninstalled 'HP Support Assistant' (heard this can interfer with certain things in the Windows 7 OS.)
8) Updated BIOS
9) Reinstalled Intel drivers from their site.
10) Went into Windows sounds and disabled all of them wondering if they were interfering with the sound.
11) Disabled the beatsaudio application. (Couldn't find how to reinstall this particular application assuming it's attached to the drivers already)
Clearly there is something wrong with the driver because it is giving me an error message from HP Recovery Manager (See #4 above). I miss very much being able to listen to the music from this laptop. As a last resort I will reformat the computer; But I'm hoping that someone out there in the internet world can help me solve this without resorting to a reformat. Thank you again for your time.
