Solution

Have an  HP Pavillion DV6-FV161AV Laptop running windows Vista.  No sound..speakers not working.  The following quick and simple fix worked for me! (foundthis on another thread)

Just reinstall the hardware driver by using the recovery feature.  Here are the steps..

Start Button - Select All programs and click on the Recovery Manager Folder then the recovery manager file.

 -click advanced option

-check "Hardware driver re-installation "

-next

-next again

-choose from list "IDT high definition audio codec driver"

-next

-wait until re-installation done

-restart

-done (thats it).. thanks

Re: HP Envy I7 15" Notebook PC- Latest Intel Update for HD Graphics Adapter driver fails to ins

Thank you for the solution. I did the installation and it worked fine. Prior to receiving the solution I did some research on my own on the Intel forum. There is a lot of discussion on the Intel graphics forum regarding graphics adapter drivers, and many people are complaining of problems. All of these seem to relate to older versions of the drivers.

In my view there is a safe way to deal with graphics drives, and that is to let Intel detect the hardware and appropriate driver. Of course, it makes total sense for the owner to double check. To be extra safe, here is what I recommend, an this uses Intel instructions:

1. Identify both the generation of the CPU and the specific model of the Intel graphics chipset. In my case I have a 4th generation I7, but I need to check for the graphics chipset. Following Intel's instructions: From the desktop, right click anywhere. Screen resolution dialog box appears. Select advanced. In my case the adapter is HD Graphics 4600. The small print data shows that the driver referenced in the solution above is the correct one - Thank you and kudos is well deserved.

2. Alternatively, the PC owner can let Intel do all of the work, but it certainly doesn't hurt to do step 1 above as insurance. Go to http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect/ . Intel will do an installation of a detection app and then detect chipsets and driver versions. It correctly detected my graphics chipset and the version of the driver installed. It also said that there was a newer drive available - 15.33.8.64.3345 also  known as (10.18.10.3345). This step also installs an Intel app that can be used for further controls of the chipset.

3. The Intel app installs Java. After completing the detection and the installation, I ran the Java app and selected disable for safety.

My overal confidence is a bit shaken for HP's driver update service because it wanted to download an earlier driver version. I'm hoping that HP employees who read this forum can address this issue and fix it for all other users.

Hello

The laptop/notebook I have is the HP Pavilion g7 Notebook PC and the product number is D1C22UA#ABA

A couple weeks back I brought a SteelSeries Siberia v2 and everything was working fine on my notebook, until a few days ago when I went to use skype, my microphone wasn't visible as a mic on skype.

I went to the Control Panel and then to Sound and found out its "Currently Unavailable"  even If I re-plugged it in its still the same. I tested this headset on other computers and it works fine.

Here's some screenshots  http://prntscr.com/2cnyh3 and http://prntscr.com/2cnyo5

I think I have to install drivers but I'm not sure anymore

Thank you for your time,

               Eyleen

Hello blauw,

I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/ .

I hope this helps!

Hi:

What model notebook do you have and what operating system are you running?

The hardware ID of PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_226E decodes to the SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio chip.

Re: HP pavillion DV7 "no" sound problem

I have a dv7-6c43cl.

I also have "no sound."

I've tried the suggestions here (uninstalling, reinstalling, reboot, etc ...it'll work for awhile and it will happen again.

I would plug in a headset and ...BOOM....no sound.

Sometimes the speakers would die by simply placing it on mute.

I've had older ...cheaper...HP laptops with zero problems.

Then I decided to upgrade to this pos...yes..pos. It was working great until 6 months later my display went out! Less than a year! Yes...it was covered under warranty; but it was a hassle and disappointment nonetheless.

If HP wants to charge a premium..how about putting in some reliable parts?

It's doubtful that spending more on a laptop is necessarialy any better.

...and now this sound issue is just pissing me off to no end.

If I can't fix this problem soon I'm seriously done buying HP's or recommending friends/family.

And as they say...bad comments about a company is infectious and viral in this age of technology. Everybody and their grannie will be aware of HP's reliability issues.

/end rant.

Very dissatisfied and disappointed owner

I have  tried literally everything the troubleshooting and the hp help site  suggests. My HP Envy with Windows 8 is not making any sound at all, from the speakers or through  the headphones. I am getting extremely frustrated, and am quite annoyed that it is not working as the laptop is only two weeks old. Help?
