To rule out the audio chip failed, if you still have the mechanical hard drive you removed, install that back in the notebook and see if the sound works again.

Other than that, I have no other ideas for you to try.

Windows Update installed HP Inc. - Firmware - 15.52.0.0 on my laptop and now I have no audio output or input. Went to the device manager and there is nothing there for sound or audio at all. I have tried all I know of to get the issue resolved and nothing fixes it. It keeps saying no audio devices found. Is there a fix I can do for this?

Mike, did you get a resolution?  I am having the same problem, I have seen that approximately 500,000,000 other people have the same F'ing problem, and HP support posts solutions that don't work.

I also just realized that mine only does it when it is plugged into AC.  So, when its plugged into AC AND there is some video content running, or even a graphics heavy web page, it sounds like a gieger counter.  It alsoo does it when booting (then it builds to a crescendo that sounds like it might blow up).

the sound does NOT come through my headphones, and I don't think its actually coming from my speakers.  If I have headphones in, the sound is still there, just not through the headphones.

Oddly, the longer my computer is on, the weaker the sound gets.

I have updated sound and video drives and BIOS.  Please HP, solve this.  it is literally the biggest problem in the world according to the number of people in your forum complaining about it.

Welcome to HP support community.

Check those headphones with an alternate device such as a Smartphone, laptop, etc...

If they work on the alternate device, check if the Headphones are enabled as a playback device.

To do this, please see the steps below:

  • Click the Start Pearl and then type Sound in the Start Search Box.

  • Select Change Sound Card Settings in the Start Menu Options.

  • Next, under the Playback Tab, right click and select Show Hidden Devices and Show Disconnected    Devices if available.

  • Select Headphones and enable

To Increase the volume on your headphone:

Method 1

  • Right-click the volume icon in the notification area.

  • Click Open Volume Mixer and increase the volume for Headphones.

Method 2

  • Right-click the volume icon in the notification area.

  • Go to Playback devices and right click Headphones under Playback.

  • Go to Properties and set the volume to the maximum under Levels tab.

  • Click Apply and OK.

Let me know how it goes.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.

Thanks for getting back to me!

Unfortunately, my device is listed as a playback device, enabled, and still not working with the volume up. I have tried this with both sets of my headphones, and they work when connected to my phone. On occasion, the headphone jack has worked. However, when it has worked is random and inconsistent- and I have not changed the settings between uses.

yes, I also just noticed that unplugging from the A/C power stops this, although for me this is not a realistic work around long term.  It is shocking to me (HP...SHOCKING) how common this issue is on the HP chat board, and how not one single HP tech has seemed to figure out what it is.  My machine is out of warranty, but I am seeing people in this forum with computers less than two years old.  Multiple models. It is an endemic problem that has been going on for a long time, and HP either doesn't care or is so inept they can't figure it out.  This will definitely be in the forefront of my mind when I next purchase a laptop, which due to this sound issue will be sooner than later.

Update the Bios and audiousing HP Support Assistant.

Download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: Click here

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

I hope that helps.

Re: Sound from headphones, no sound from speakers

After no response from HP, I posted a link to my HP post onto TWITTER.

@HPSupport Does anyone from HP read its support forum? Here's my problem. (I pasted in a link to my post.)

> The Response from HP:
Thanks for reaching out.
I see that you are facing issues with your HP product wherein there is no audio in the speakers but headphones do work.
I suggest that you follow the steps from this document: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04973149
Let me know if this helps.

> My Reply to Their Response:
I watched the video near the start of the page you referred me to. Then, as suggested in the video, I went to the Support Assistant and downloaded the latest version of the Support Assistant. I went to run the troubleshooting but before I got past the first click, the sound was working. Updating the Support Assistant software would not have fixed the PC's sound. But the sound is working now, so I am a little happy but a lot confused. You can close this ticket. Thanks.

> My conclusion:
My PC is working now, but I'm not sure why. It is possible that updating the Support Assistant to the latest version and then CLICKING ON AUDIO CHECK might have fixed it. I doubt it, but who knows. I'm moving on, still wondering if HP reads their forum.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Firstly, perform Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8.

Next step, BIOS default:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer. Once it's done uninstall the Touchpad device,

Next, uninstall Audiodevice from device manager.

  1. Press Windows+X to open the menu, and choose Device Manager on it.
  2. In the device manager, expand the category " Audio input and output".
  3. Under this category, right-click on your Audio input and output driver and click on Uninstall.
  4. You may be required to confirm the uninstallation. Check the box next to "Delete the driver software for this device" and click OK button.
  5. Restart your PC for the change to take effect. After restarting. Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.
  6. Do not perform any manual upgrades to the driver until it does automatically

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,  I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Let's try Microsoft system restore: System Restore returns your computer to the files and settings from the restore point. Your personal files and documents are not affected.

Click here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03327545 to Use Microsoft System Restore (Windows 10, 😎
