It is very hard to say what notebooks will be updated, when a new operating system is available. This does all depend on the hardware that is used to make the computer. Some pieces of the hardware that is used, cannot be upgraded further due to the limitations of that piece of hardware. With say your headphones that worked perfectly before upgrading to Windows 8.1, and the manufacturer stating that there is not specific software/drivers for Windows 8.1. Could be one of the various causes of the issue.

Before updating your operating system HP always recommends to check, and make sure that your computer is first compatible with the new operating system. As well making sure that there is driver updates to make sure that all the components are updated as well.
