Welcome to HP Support Forums. A really great platform for posting all your questions and finding solutions.

I understand that the Headphones option is not available in Volume mixer and it's a brand new Headphones

I'll try my best to help

Are you using the COMPAQ PRESSARIO CQ60-211DX NOTEBOOK PC with Windows 7? May I know since when are you facing this issue?

  • Did you try a different headset to isolate the issue further?

I suggest your reinstall the Audio Driver from Device Manager

- Select the Start  button, type Device Manager, and select it from the list of results.
- Look for Audio Adapters and expand the List
- Look for Audio driver then right-click it, and select Update Driver.
- Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
- If Windows doesn't find a new driver, you can try looking for one on the device manufacturer's website and follow their instructions.
- If these steps don't work, try reinstalling the driver: Open Device Manager, right-click the Audio driver and select Uninstall. Restart your PC and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.

Also download the BIOS from this Link: https://hp.care/2lenIcN

Have you tried this Headphones on another Windows 7 computer?

Keep me posted

Thank you :)

Thanks for the update,

As I understand you have exhausted all possible troubleshooting steps and still having the issue. In this scenario, I would personally suggest the next step would be to perform a push button reset on the PC. Windows 10 has a reset feature that repairs your computer by reinstalling the operating system. This can be done either while preserving your personal data and customizations, or removing all your personal data.

If the issue persists, I would suggest the next step would be to perform a system recovery using the partition available on your PC.

Doing this will wipe off everything and set the computer back to the original factory conditions. So, please remember to back up your data before initiating system recovery. If for some reason the recovery fails. The only other way to install Windows would be to order the recovery media for your laptop and using the recovery media you can install Windows. You can check if the recovery media is available online on www.hp.com/drivers by entering the exact model no. of your laptop. To find the exact model no. click here: http://hp.care/2bygf7l

HP PCs - How to Reset Your Computer to Factory Settings (Windows 10, 8, 7)

Otherwise, you could also reach HP phone support to order the recovery media. If your product is out of warranty, please choose paid options to get the tech support number.

HP Support can be reached by clicking on the following link:

  1. Click on this link – www.hp.com/contacthp/

  3. 3) Enter the serial of your device.
  4. 4) Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. 5) Click on “Show Options”.

Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

laptop sound playing from headphones and speakers

yesterday when i turned on my computer the start up screen said "scanning and repairing drives" and when it turned on the sound wasnt working correctly, it was coming out of both headphones and computer speakers.

i tried to set headphones to default but its not showing up in playback, the only thing listed is speakers by realtek.

another thing is i have the power button set to sleep, but after yesterday the screen wont come back on and I have to hard restart. i figured its related since it didnt start doing this until yesterday. as far as i know there hasnt been any recent changes to the computer.

also i noticed that when the headphones are plugged in the laptop changes to a different speaker, and changes back when unplugged.

ive run troubleshooter and come up with nothing, reinstalled realtek, updated the driver and nothing has worked. any help would be appreciated!

Re: Audio garbles in all applications

In answer to your 2 question

1) I use iTunes for music, so I installed it and noticed the issue after it played fine for an hour or so.

2) I don't use either.

I went through the "detect problems" steps, and I don't see where there is an issue.

I tried to perform the check via BIOS, but it stated the image was corrupted so I could not run the audio test. Why would HP send me a PC with a bad system restore image?

As originally stated, it works fine for an hour or so, and then it just goes into the Slo Mo garbles sound.

I have been building and trouble shooting PC since it was possible to get the parts to build and before there was a notebook.  I feel certain there is either something wrong with the driver or the sounf hardware itself.

Is HP going to do something to help me correct this problem and the new one with the corrupted restore image or not?

Thanks for keeping us posted

It looks like you were interacting with MKazi, but he is out for the day. I'm KrazyToad & I'm at your service.

I suggest you try a System Restore to an earlier time before this issue started and check if that helps

- Select the Start button, type control panel and then choose it from the list of results.
- Search Control Panel for Recovery.
- Select Recovery > Open System Restore > Next.
- Choose the restore point related to the problematic app, driver, or update, and then select Next > Finish.

If the issue persists, please back up your PC and perform a System Recovery

- Turn off the computer.Disconnect all connected devices and cables such as Personal Media Drives, USB drives, printers, and faxes.
- Turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F11 key about once every second until the Choose an option screen is displayed, and then continue.
- On the Choose an Option screen, click Troubleshoot.
- On the Troubleshoot screen, click Recovery Manager.
- Under Help, click System Recovery.
- When Recovery Manager prompts you to back up your files, select a backup option:
- The Welcome to HP Recovery Manager screen is displayed. Read the on-screen information, and then disconnect any connected devices and cables, such as Personal Media Drives, USB drives, printers, and faxes.
- Remove media from internal drives, and remove any recently added internal hardware.
- Click Next to continue.
- When recovery preparation is complete, click Continue to proceed to the installation phase of the recovery process. The computer restarts several times during the recovery. This is normal. Do not close, shut down, or disconnect the computer while HP Recovery runs.
- Recovery Manager reformats the Windows partition and reinstalls the original software.
- After the system recovery is complete, click Finish to restart the computer. Complete the setup screens and wait until the computer finishes the setup.
- Once the setup is complete, turn off the computer, reconnect all devices and cables, and then turn on the computer.
- Before using the computer, update and protect your computer by reinstalling any virus and security software that was installed before the system recovery.
- Reinstall any software programs that were added after purchasing the computer, as well as any files that were backed up.

Keep me posted how it goes

Thank you :)

physical keyboard

All Keys make clicking sound nearly all the time (will clarify below)

sound coming from the speakers (verified by turning off the speakers)

Click on: Word, sending Outlook message, (NOT when I receive a Outlook message and open it), Not when looking for files in Outlook or when changing things in settings.    Clicks in Chrome, gmail & Google.

Crazy.....hope this helps.  Thanks  for your help.

Sir, today (Sunday, 6/17/18) when I cut the laptop on all the keys were silent.  Do you have any ideas what is going on just in case it happens again.

Microsoft told me it was a hardware problem.....not software.

Thank you!

Hey KrazyToad!  Thanks for replying.  Yes it is a COMPAQ PRESSARIO CQ60-211DX NOTEBOOK PC with Windows 7.  Just got it about a week ago.  It's not a brand new computer.  It's used with windows 7 reinstalled.  From a local company around here that I've done business with for years.  Since it's just a sound software issue I've been trying to see if I could just fix, update or whatever I can do here instead of having to take it back in for them to do what I can probably do right here at home.   The sound works fine. Speakers good. No complaints about anything else.   But just recently tried headphones and nothing.  Speakers keep working but no headphones.  Checked volume mixer and did not see a headphones or speaker/headphones option like in my other HP computer which uses windows 10 and Realtek HD audio.    I want to keep my COMPAQ using windows 7.  I checked online for help on what to do.  I updated the drivers. But didn't do what you said to do below. I'll do what you said to do. And I'll download the BIOS like you said.  I'm a computer novice so I don't really know what all this means. But I will do what you say and get back to you ASAP.  I was also wondering if I could uninstall Conexant and replace with Realtek.  I'll get back to you ASAP.  Thanks KrazyToad.

Microsoft is most likely referring to the ON-Screen keyboard option that allows you to turn on SIMULATED key sounds as a feedback item for using that kind of keyboard.  And, you turn that off or on, at will.

The sound you are hearing from your physical keyboard is totally unrelated to that sound.

The only sources I could find indicated one of the following to be true:

1) hardware option of the keyboard -- set by a switch, somewhere, on the keyboard

2) Software option in the Sounds settings, under File Explorer, where it said something about Navigation.

This second is disabled, by default, as evidenced by the lack of a speaker icon next to it in the settings box.  If yours got enabled somehow, you could then find that in Settings and disable it.

But ... since the sound has stopped, I don't now know what to tell you ...

I was able to get into the BIOS and run the audio test piece, and it passed.
Which I would expect since the audio is fine on a restart.

I checked the 'Open System Restore', and there is only 1 restore point that was 4 days ago.
The problem existed prior to this, so I will not be performing this restore.

As far as the System Recovery is concerned, I would like to know what happens if it does not resolve the issue.
Backing everything up, reinstalling everything and then configuring it all again is no small task.
I just completed moving everything from a Toshiba PC to this one. thinking I was upgrading.
I had turn the Toshiba back on last night just to stream a livestream concert on YouTube.
I have to weigh whether this risk is worth the "possibility" of the problem being resolved.
If there is no further solution, then I am not sure I want to proceed with it.

If we will reach the end of the line, buying a PC that IS NOT an HP may end up being the solution

Please advise further.

Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter.

In Device Manager, right click on the problem device and select Properties.  Click the Details tab, choose Hardware Ids from the dropdown box and post back with the details shown under Value.  Repeat for each device showing a error.

15-aw057nr Audio issues

When playing any audio from any applicaion. It will start out playing normal. But after about 15 seconds the volume gets lower till there is no sound.

When this happens the System volume is still at 100%

Everything in the volume mixer is still the same.

Mute is not on.

If you wait a few min then play audio it will work then do the samething.

This only happens when using the built in speakers.

No issues with headphones connected.

Did reinstall the currect driver.

Still the same issue.

Been resatrted mutiple times.
