beats audio suddenly missing

I have an HP Envy (non-touch) quad core 15 inch laptop (with no CD drive). For some unknown reason Beats audio has completely dissappeared from my laptop. It's nowhere. I haven't done anything to it. I think windows 10 might have updated, but beats is gone and now my laptop sounds tinny. Please help.

Hi,

Try the following.

Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63555.exe

When done, hold down the Windows key and press R

Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter.

In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.

When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63001-63500/sp63408.exe

When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, restart the notebook.

When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook and let windows fully load for a few minutes.  Open windows Control Panel and in the top right, next to View by: select 'Large Icons'.  From the new layout, check if the Beats icon is listed.

Tried all this. The bass just gets really distorted. Think it somehow need a separate sub but still use the built in speakers for the treble.
Not very well thought out.

I see that you are trying to use the Bluetooth audio speakers with your Envy 360 notebook and is encountering issues. Did you get a CD / Software along with the device? If you did you may need to install the device driver software on your notebook for the smooth functioning of your device.

Also please try the steps mentioned here: http://hp.care/2fYIQ6u

I also found a Windows forum link discussing the same issue. You might find it useful. Check it out here: http://hp.care/2f1nDHb

HP Evny speaker/headphone issue

I have made a post on this before but there have been some changes to the machine since then.

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Audio/HP-Envy-Audio-issue/m-p/5259016#M69303

So here is my problem. Sometimes the audio will work fine, during these times I am happy with it.

When playing audio over the main speakers with nothing in the audio jack, it will think there is something in the audio jack and route the audio there, so I cant hear anything. I can tell this is happening because the system volume control will now display the headphone level. It will also flicker between the speakers and headphone audio levels which is the only reason I noticed this.

When the headphones are in, they tend to work more often than the main speaker. However it will also think that the headphones are not plugged in and switch back to the main speakers.

Its common for it to switch between states rapidly and repeatedly for several seconds.

The problem should not be related to the headphones I am using. I use 3 different pairs, all of which use the headphone jack and not USB (never tried usb or bluetooth audio actually).

For some reason touching the case seems to matter. I dont know if its in my head or something, but oftend putting a little tension on the front of the case seems to help, like putting a dice under the left or right front rubber foot.

So I have looked around and tried many solutions.

  • I have tried upgrading to windows 10, problem remained
  • I have reinstalled the OS completely (not repaired or reverted)
  • I have updated the driver and rebooted
  • I have updated HP PC Hardware Diagnostics and run the audio, when I tested the headphones it had problems because it kept asking me to insert the headphones, but they already were
  • Recently my screen was damaged to I took it in for repair and since it was going to be gone I asked them to replace the audio jack in case there was something about the jack itself. I am told that the jack was replaced but have no proof of it actually having been done, and the problem remains,
  • I have used troubleshooting - audio playback, found no issues.
  • I have played around with every setting in the sound panel options.
  • In the past I have played around with the beats audio control panel but found no solutions there.
  • I have taken it in for repair for this specific issue, but as it doesnt always happen, during their testing they cant find an issue.

After having had this issue for 2+ years I would like to get it fixed. I am at a loss for what else to check and I am just tired of it.

Hi, I recently updated my laptop and ever since the update my volume control bar has been stuck on my screen. Everytime I click on it it goes from 0 to 100. It is stuck on 100. The volume keys on my laptop are not working and I have tried to go into my settings and manually turning my volume off and it doesnt work it is stuck at 100. Also, I have done a refresh and tried uninstalling the microphone and stuff and nothing has worked. Thanks!

Kaby Lake Spectre x360 distorted audio from speakers

I'm having trouble with super scratchy/distorted audio on the newest (Oct 2016, 7th gen i7) Spectre x360 (X7V22UA) and am wondering if this is just inherent to the design or if my machine has a hardware problem.

When my machine was brand new out of the box, it sounded like the speakers were blown out when playing certain frequencies such as the Windows 10 notification tone. I did the standard troubleshooting, a HP representative asked me to send it in for repair, allegedly the speakers were replaced, but the replaced unit is just as bad.

When audio plays at even modest volumes (right now I have it at 36/100), I can feel the laptop vibrating and rattling.

I know this is a laptop and I'm not expecting the world's greatest sound, but the distortion is really annoying. Is this just inherent to the new x360s or am I just unlucky with my RMA? I've tried updating drivers, BIOS, etc. and the problem persists. Headphones are fine. It's definitely the external speakers on this laptop that are vibrating around.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Right click on sound in system tray
  2. Choose "Playback devices"
  3. Choose the only option, "Realtek High Definition Audio (SST)"
  4. Click "Configure"
  5. Click the "Test" button that plays three chimes in each speaker.
  6. Listen to it rattle.

Is this happening to anyone else? Seems like it's identical to the symptoms of this problem, but that's for an older model of the x360 and this new model has different hardware. Also, the old problem was never resolved.

Hello, thank you for your reply. Unfortunately the driver provided has not done anything to help me get my audio back. Is there maybe something I have to do in the device manager setting? anything I have to do when booting my computer? I also forgot to mention that the audio does work if I were to connect my hdmi on to my tv, which works fine. However, when I plug my earphone it wont play any audio.

I would have no idea how you update a mouse pad driver as I am not technical and I doubt my 12 son would know how to do this.  The mouse pad will no longer click left or right?  If you could advise how I would update I could try this.

Many thanks

Re: Speaker Upgrade

This is the speakers you have:

Speakers (includes left and right speakers and cable) 749653-001

That is not something you can just go pick up at Best Buy. They have been uniquely designed and manufactured to fit into the space that is available in your laptop. They are also tiny and not capable of really good sound. That is common in laptops. Perhaps there is something wrong with your specific speakers and you could benefit from a replacement but there are no possible upgrade options.

What Pavilion? HP makes dozens of them. We need the model number and the Windows version (likely Windows 10).

Thank you for replying,

I appreciate your time, patience and efforts,

Considering, you are using windows 10 on your HP Laptop, the start tab is nothing but the button on the bottom left corner that gets you the start screen/programs - the same can be accessed using the windows buttons on your keypad between ALT and Fn keys.

Also about the links, I've edited and corrected them, please use the correct links, mentioned below to reinstall the latest updates for your Fn (Function) keys, please follow the below steps to fix this concern:

Click the Start button, then click Run .

2.In the Run window, next to Open , type MSCONFIG.

3.Press the ENTER key.

4.In the System Configuration Utility window, click the Startup tab.

5.On the Startup tab, under Startup Item , ensure that there is a check in the HKserv checkbox.

NOTE: If HKserv is missing, reinstall the HotKey Utility application by Clicking here

For windows 10 drivers: Click here

Keep me posted,
If the information I've provided was helpful,

that’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!
Good Luck.

Hit esc to pause startup select f2 diagnostics then select component tests and audio and run the longest test you can on the audio chip. I suspect a hardware issue from your description and you need to get some backup information to have HP repair it or replace the motherboard under warranty.

Hi, Tom:

The only suggestion I can offer would be to try the W7 audio and pci simple comms controller drivers from the HP Probook 450 G3.

This package contains the driver that enables the Conexant High-Definition (HD) Audio in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system.

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp74001-74500/sp74370.exe

This package provides the Intel Management Engine Components Driver for supported notebook models running a supported operating system.
